Kyoto Uji Matcha Latte Art Challenge
On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, a matcha latte art competition using hand-picked matcha produced in Uji, Kyoto will be held at the Kyoto Prefecture Tea Association Center in Uji City (next to Takumi-no-yakata).
The competition will not only be judged on the beauty of the art, but also on the taste of the tea. Who will win the preliminary, semi-final, and final rounds?
In addition to Uji matcha latte art, there will also be Uji tea tasting and a hands-on experience to learn more about matcha!

A limited number of spectators will be available to watch the tournament on the day of the event (spectator fee: 1,500 yen).

Event Information
Date: Tuesday, December 3, 2024
Athletes gather at 10:30 a.m., Spectators enter at 12:00 p.m., Tournament begins at 12:30 p.m., Tournament ends at 4:00 p.m.
Venue: Kyoto Prefecture Tea Association Center (17-1 Uji Matafuri, Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, next to Takumi-no-yakata)

2,000 yen (payable upon passing the photo screening)
About Photo Selection
Please send us a photo of your latte art using matcha tea via a message on the competition Instagram.
The top six winners will be selected based on the points allocated (other than taste) for the competition.
The deadline for submissions is Sunday, November 10, 2012.
Rules & Regulations
Matcha used should be limited to 4.0gCompetitors must make one (1) cup of matcha latte art using hand-picked Uji matcha within the time limit.
Uji Matcha” refers to ‘Matcha produced in Kyoto, Nara, Shiga and Mie prefectures and ground and milled in Kyoto by Kyoto-based tea makers using methods originating from the Uji region’ (Trademark Registration No. 6226519).
The time limit is 4 minutes.
The machine to be used is the MS-130T (WPM) milk steamer.
The cups can be any cup between 6 oz. and 12 oz. that the contestant has prepared himself/herself (7 oz. cups available at the venue can also be used).
Matcha used should be limited to 4.0g (hand-picked Uji Matcha provided by the venue).
Judging Criteria
Difficulty: 20 points
Creativity 20 points
Perfection (balance, contrast, etc.) 50 points
Taste (taste of matcha, balance with milk, mouthfeel) 10 points
