On Saturday, 6/10/2023, Uji tea event was held at Kyoto Prefectural Chagyo-kaikan (next to Takumi no Yakata).
The theme of this year’s event was “Hand Rubbing of New Tea”. For the first time, the event was supported by the Kyoto Prefectural Chagyo-kaikan.
We started by steeping fresh tea leaves that were hand-picked on the morning of the day. By the way, it is a very small amount of leaves that can be picked in about 30 minutes.
The rubbing was done while drying on the “hoiro”, which was specially made for this event. It takes a long time, so we had a good time chatting and laughing.
Three hours later, this is what it looks like.
It’s only one-fifth of the buds picked, so the finished product is only this much. But the process is really fun.
On the day of the event, we will also hold a hojicha (roasted green tea) making experience at the same time, which we did last time. I feel like I am one step closer to the “tea theme park” I want to create! It was a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing you all again in the future!
